Blizzard announces new competitive game mode: Heroic Tavern BrawlWhat do you guys think about this new mode? I think it's interesting and could be a good way to supplement your income on this game if you are good enough. I know some people on reddit gave me hell for the news but I'm sure all of us here who have achieved legend rank on HS has gone 12-3 in standard mode at some point. Opinions?

It looks sick! Maybe a test period for an in-game tournament mode? Regardless, I'm stoked and ready to spend my gold in the pursuit of glory.
I'm thinking about bringing Druid for my first run. What about y'all?

I'll be bringing whatever I believe the best deck is at the time.

I'm expecting ShamanStone, considering bringing the counters. Freeze Mage/Control Warrior

People expect to play against too many of one deck. For example, Im sure most people would agree that Shaman is the best deck. That doesn’t mean that in an 12-round tournament you should expect to play 8 of them. With as diverse as the meta is at the moment, I wouldn’t expect to play against 8 of the same deck in a tournament any time soon. In a Heroic Brawl I would expect to play against 3 or 4 Shaman, 1 or 2 Malygos Druids, 1 Warrior etc. You’re not going to play against 6 Shaman decks. At this point I’d guess you might play 2 or 3 max. Overestimating like this leads to over teching for whichever specific deck and therefore under teching for all of the other decks in the meta. I’d say overestimating the number of matches you’ll play against the best or most hyped deck is the determining factor between 12-3 and x-3.

I made a calculator to figure out your expected return based on your win rate in each round. The upshot of it is that you can "Make a profit" if you have an average win rate of 55% or higher, but it still converts the bulk of your gold into dust and packs. If you need the packs on offer in the Brawl, it's worth it, but if not then it's better to save the gold for buying the next expansion when you actually need the packs. Personally, I'm going to play it once just for fun, but I don't think I want to sink 5k into it for all five runs.

I don't really save much gold so I'll prolly just dish out 10 bucks to play as if I was entering a real tourney.

I saved up 1k gold for it now, and I think I'll play it once so I've had a feel for it. The rest of my gold will probably be saved unless I do well. xD
